Resolution on New Forms of Violence Against Children
The member countries of the European Centre of the International Council of Women (ECICW-CECIF) met at an international conference organized in Athens by the National Council of Greek Women on May 11 2006, to examine the issues related to new forms of violence against children within and outside the family, inside and across borders.
The European Centre of the International Council of Women (ECICW-CECIF)
(i) Being aware of the risks of violence arising from the increase in
– Migration
– Separation of families
– Misuse of the internet and electronic crime
– Pornography
– Trafficking in children
(ii) Urges the European Commission, the Council of Europe and National Governments to take immediate action:
a) to introduce additional policies and to provide funding of new initiatives for the protection of children;
b) to inform and educate children – parents – teachers about the emerging risks in contemporary society; and
c) to promote effective techniques as a means for avoiding them.
